Abstract—We investigate cooperative strategies for relay-aided multi-source multi-destination wireless networks with backhaul support. Each source multicasts information to all destinations using a shared relay. We study cooperative strategies based on different network coding (NC) schemes, namely, finite field NC (FNC), linear NC (LNC), and lattice coding. To further exploit the backhaul connection, we also propose NC-based beam-forming (NBF). We measure the performance in term of achievable rates over Gaussian channels and observe significant gains over a benchmark scheme. On Ezra Pound's Translation of Classical Chinese Poetry in Cathay

This thesis focuses on Ezra Pound's translation of Classical Chinese Poetry in Cathay. A comparative study of Pound's translations with the original Chinese poems and versions by other translators is conducted. The theoretical framework adopted is Toury's (1995) Descriptive Translation Studies (DTS): an important concept, 'shifts', is used for the analysis. Lefevere's (1975) seven strategies for translating poetry and Chesterman's (1997) categorization of shifts are incorporated as the secondary framework. The thesis reveals that regardless of some considerable deviations from the original, Pound's translations have successfully reproduced the essence, the delicate shades of meaning, the musicality, the sharp imagery, the precise diction, and the succinct style of the source texts, which has enable Cathay to become a popular collection of translation since its first publication in 1915

Federal Estate Tax: Joint Wills and the Marital Deduction

The framework of network equivalence theory developed by Koetter et al. introduces a notion of channel emulation to construct noiseless networks as upper/lower　bounding models for the original noisy network. This paper presents scalable upper bounding models for wireless networks, by firstly extending the ``one-shot'' bounding models developed by Calmon et al. and then integrating them with network equivalence tools. A channel decoupling method is proposed to decompose wireless networks into decoupled multiple-access channels (MACs) and broadcast channels (BCs). The main advantages of the proposed method is its simplicity and the fact that it can be extended easily to large networks with a complexity that grows linearly with the number of nodes. 'Treatment no less favourable' and the future of National Treatment obligation in GATT article III:4 after EC - seal products

The national treatment (NT) obligation embodied in Article III:4 of the GATT 1994 has been long marked by legal indeterminacy. Recently, the WTO Appellate Body has shed some fresh light on how the NT obligation should be interpreted in EC–Seal Products. The Appellate Body's report on EC–Seal Products and other recent developments in WTO case law have fundamentally reshaped our collective understanding of the NT obligation. The purpose of this article is to take stock of what we have known about the NT obligation in GATT Article III:4 after EC–Seal Products, as well as identifying some lingering uncertainties. This paper argues that the boundary of the NT obligation in GATT Article III:4 will be largely determined by how the Appellate Body deals with three big issues identified in this article in future disputes

Clearing the fog: Forest Stewardship Council labelling and the World Trade Organization

This article aims to clarify three long-standing puzzles concerning the place of private standards in the World Trade Organization (WTO) through the lens of FSC labelling. The first question is whether the FSC label falls within the regulatory scope of the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT Agreement). The second question is the extent of WTO member States’ obligations under the TBT Agreement if the FSC is an active standardizing body in their territories. The third question asks whether the FSC standard may qualify as an ‘international standard’ as defined in the TBT Agreement and thus may exert quasi-legislative effects on WTO members’ national forest conservation laws and regulations. A detailed case study of the relationship between the FSC labelling and the TBT Agreement shows that the answers to these questions are much more nuanced than the existing scholarship suggests
